Both federal and state laws provide a wide range of types of protected leave, which allow employees to take time away from work to attend to personal matters. Understanding what laws apply when a qualifying event occurs can be tricky. Even the most generous of employers can unintentionally run afoul of the law. This interactive session we will equip HR professionals with knowledge to handle leave requests lawfully. You will learn:
How to identify which leave law applies to avoid costly legal mistakes,
Best practices on documentation, and
How to support employees while maintaining operational needs.
Michelle concentrates her practice on representing management in employment matters. Michelle defends companies in a broad range of employment and labor disputes, including cases involving allegations of discrimination based on age, race, color, national origin, disability, sex, and religion, sexual and racial harassment, retaliation, fraud, defamation, negligent supervision and retention, and breach of contract. She also handles claims involving the FLSA, FMLA, and the WARN Act.
